Character: Lloyd Irving
Canon: Tales of Symphonia, immediately after Yuan wakes him up in Altessa's house but before he gets outside for the massive reveal scene.
Age: 17
Background Information: The wiki failed me...
Personality:
– 1 –
Lloyd generally comes off as a friendly guy who really cares about other people. He'll talk about how all of his friends are dear people to him, and we either see or hear about him saving various NPCs when they're in mortal danger. As he says, he can't ignore someone suffering right before his eyes. He's very straightforward and almost never afraid to say what's on his mind. Raine said that his feelings are always honest and pure.
It also doesn't take long to think he's pretty stupid; more on that later. But it's easy to spot the times when he has good ideas. He's a great tactician, for example. Whether it be in battle, needing to break in somewhere, or getting a person to confess to secrets they shouldn't be hiding. That time when he tricks Colette with the coffee is still legendary on the internet.
– 2 –
Lloyd is a staunch idealist and never gives up on the potential that things can work out well for everyone and that people can all live in peace. No matter what his specific goal is at any one time, that's the general idea that drives him. He's not ashamed to change his mind about things, and his objectives in the game evolve as time goes on and he gets new information on the actual state of the world.
His idealism also makes him stand up for treating people fairly. He never lets a category someone happens to fall into affect his judgment of them, such as their race. He also doesn't blame these entire groups for the evil actions of a few. Lloyd can look at a situation from another person's point of view and at least try to find some sort of understanding or forgiveness, even when he probably shouldn't. An example of a good time he did that is when he finds out that his as of then unidentified father was the one to physically kill his mother, he doesn't put any anger or blame on him because he'd already heard that the situation was caused by Kvar.
He does his best to live by the Dwarven Vows that his dad taught him. Sometimes he complains about the cheesier ones, and Genis said he usually only pulls them out in conversations if he needs an excuse. It doesn't mean he never breaks them, but they really do matter to him and guide a lot of his beliefs.
– 3 –
Lloyd is pretty oblivious and can be an idiot a good chunk of the time. He doesn't have the motivation to pay attention in school outside of PE or Art (or lunch), so his book smarts are embarrassingly lacking at time. He also has the attention span of a puppy with ADHD who's browsing Facebook. Lloyd will go into new experiences full of enthusiasm, but the moment it's no longer novel, he completely checks out and starts complaining. If he can find an easier or lazier way to get something done, he goes for that.
His pure and honest feelings, while generally a strength, can get him into trouble. He's not afraid to tell anyone off, even if they're someone in power or in a position to harm him. It means he gets mad easily, too. Looking at things so purely also means he doesn't necessarily notice the complexities of a situation, such an not realizing until the end of the Journey of Regeneration that Colette was supposed to die.
Lloyd has made some very serious mistakes in his time, letting the Desians see him cause a disturbance at the Human Ranch which leads to the death of people of Iselia and Marble being the prime example. The thing is that Lloyd can immediately acknowledge these things and own them. He doesn't pretend it never happened, he doesn't make excuses, and he knows there are some he just can't change or fix. He also knows that the only way he can make any sort of amends is to keep moving forward and do whatever he possibly can. He tries not to worry if people hate or can't forgive him.
– 4 –
Lloyd fights with two swords and came up with most of his fighting techniques. His absolutely reasonable logic for this is that two swords mean you're twice as powerful than you are with one. (You really aren't. For the record.)
Abilities & Inventory: Lloyd is very good at crafting and art, much of which he learned from his dwarf father. He's also good at picking locks. In battle, all of the artes he can use are listed here. He won't be capable of the hidden arte or any of the combo ones, though.
He'll be coming with his main outfit, his Exsphere and its Key Crest, his Muramasa twin blades weapon, and his "dog" Noishe.

ARMADA SELECTION
I'm selecting Paladins for Lloyd because he has a strong personal sense of right and wrong and will follow it no matter what. He really focuses on helping others and negating suffering. He's also very honest and only lies if he has a good reason to. He does his best to follow the Dwarven Vows that Dirk taught him, and can at least recite them. I'd like to see what these ideals lead to in a world of piracy and what being under the established ones here does to him.
I could also see him as a Corsair, though. As Lloyd found out that the way the world works was just making everyone suffer, he didn't hesitate to start fighting against it even if it got the massive powers that be out to get him. He can also go from being very excited about and committed to doing something to feeling totally bored and not interested in it at all rather easily.
